15+ Family Things Around Mt. Juliet This Week
Last week's family calendar around here ran almost entirely through one orchard. This week spreads out across Wilson County. There's a two-day pow wow at the fairgrounds, a harvest-moon night hike at Cedars of Lebanon, a ranger walk around Couchville Lake, and a full slate of free library programs in Mt. Juliet and Lebanon. Breeden's is still on the list, because it earns it.
Here is the week, Thursday through Wednesday.
Thursday, September 24
Ranger hike around Couchville Lake — 9 a.m. at Long Hunter State Park, $10. A ranger leads the two-mile paved loop and tells the lake's backstory along the way. Flat enough for school-age kids. Bring water and register ahead.
Preschool Storytime at the Mt. Juliet library — 10 a.m., free, ages 3 to 5. Stories, songs and puppets, with a new letter every week. No registration, just show up.
Lapsit baby program at the Lebanon library — 10 a.m. Rhymes and movement for babies and young toddlers, the kind of half hour that gets a new parent out of the house.
Homeschool Thursdays: Pollinator Pursuit — 1 p.m. at Cedars of Lebanon, $2. A hands-on lesson on native bees for homeschoolers ages 9 to 12. Only 15 spots, and a parent stays.
Pizza Night at Breeden's Orchard — 4:30 to 8 p.m. Dinner outdoors on the farm, and you pay only for what you order. An easy yes for a Thursday.
Friday, September 25
Science Fridays for Homeschoolers — 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. at the Mt. Juliet library. Classroom-style science for 4th grade and up. Bring a notebook.
Story Time at Breeden's Orchard — 10 a.m. Read-aloud stories and open space to run around, for the preschool crowd.
Friday Night Market at Breeden's Orchard — 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., free to browse. Local vendors and food, with room for the kids to roam while you shop.
Saturday, September 26
43rd Annual WilCo Pow Wow — Saturday and Sunday at the Wilson County Fairgrounds. Grand Entry is at 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday, and it's the part to plan around. It's a rare chance for kids to watch Native dance up close. Gate admission is cash only: $10 adults, $5 ages 6 to 12, free for 5 and under.
Story Time at Breeden's Orchard — 10 a.m. The Saturday session, for families who can't make Friday morning.
Fall festival in Watertown — 1 to 5 p.m. at Three Forks Community Park, free admission. A small-town fall festival that raises money for the Jake Harris Scholarship. Worth the drive east.
Full harvest moon night hike at Cedars of Lebanon — 8 to 10 p.m., free with an optional donation. A ranger-led walk under the full moon with constellations along the way. Bring a red flashlight and a jacket. It's canceled if the weather turns.
Tuesday, September 29
Baby Rhyme Time at the Mt. Juliet library — 10 a.m., free. Songs and board books for babies about 8 months to 2 years.
Storytime: The Letter E at the Lebanon library — 10 a.m. An all-ages storytime. Kids bring a show-and-tell item that starts with E, so start the hunt at breakfast.
Creative Crew craft drop-in — 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Mt. Juliet library, 3rd grade and up. A different craft hobby each month, and they can drop in any time after school.
Wednesday, September 30
LEGO Free Build Day at the Lebanon library — All day in the children's section. A pile of bricks and no instructions.
Preschool Storytime at the Mt. Juliet library — 10 a.m., free. The Wednesday session, if Thursday doesn't work.
Coming up: Sadie Ford Heritage Day brings free mule wagon rides, butter churning and homemade ice cream to the Cedars of Lebanon farm on Oct. 3. Movie in the Park at Charlie Daniels Park is Oct. 2. Halloween planning is already underway, with trunk-or-treats at the Glade Church and First Mt. Juliet on Oct. 25 and Halloween in the Grove at Fiddlers Grove on Oct. 31. It's all on the Mt.
