A Weekend in Mt. Juliet: Lake Days and Local Plates
Mt. Juliet calls itself the City Between the Lakes, and a good weekend here leans into that nickname: a slow afternoon on Old Hickory Lake, a morning under the cedars and plenty of time at the tables locals keep going back to. Every stop below is in Wilson County, and none of them is far from the next.
The plan starts Friday night in Mt. Juliet, spends Saturday between the park, the lake and a brick-oven dinner, and saves Sunday for Lebanon, the county seat just up the interstate, where a state park and a historic square make an easy last day.
Barrel House Restaurant and Bar
Mt. Juliet · 3950 N. Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122
Kick off the weekend at this North Mt. Juliet Road bar and restaurant, where the kitchen covers a lot of ground: pork belly burnt ends, steaks and chops, smash burgers and a wing list with sauces from bourbon barbecue to chimichurri garlic. Residents voted those wings the city's best in the 2026 Mt. Juliet Main Street Awards, and the bar pours cocktails, wine and beer for a proper Friday-night table.
Tip: Reserve a table, start with wings for everyone, and keep it in mind for the weekend brunch.
The Paper Mill
Mt. Juliet · 4066 N. Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122
Saturday begins at this homey Southern cafe, a breakfast-and-lunch spot that feels like a second kitchen for half the neighborhood. Expect generous omelets, biscuits smothered in sausage gravy and smoked gouda grits, plus a meat-and-three lunch on weekdays. Mt. Juliet voters made it a Breakfast finalist in the 2026 Main Street Awards, and a second cup of coffee comes easily here.
Tip: Make it an early start, and add a side of the smoked gouda grits to whatever you order.
Charlie Daniels Park
Mt. Juliet · 1075 Charlie Daniels Pkwy., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122
Walk off breakfast at the city's flagship park, named for the late country fiddler Charlie Daniels. A one-mile walking track circles a fenced playground, a skate park, tennis and pickleball courts, a gaga ball pit and an amphitheater that hosts concerts and community events through the year. Residents voted it Mt. Juliet's top family fun spot in 2026, and a sunny Saturday shows why.
Tip: On select Saturdays the Hibbett Hall train museum inside the community center runs its model railroad, so check the city calendar and add it if the dates line up.

Mt. Juliet Welcome Center & General Store Museum
Mt. Juliet · 50 E. Hill St., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122
A few minutes away in the older part of town, the city's welcome center doubles as a pocket-size general store museum. A longtime resident spent more than 50 years collecting everyday Mt. Juliet memorabilia and donated it to the city, so the shelves hold vintage Texaco and storefront signs, antique cameras, old grocery goods, a cash register, a soda machine and a telephone booth younger visitors will want explained.
Tip: Photos are encouraged, and it's a handy place to pick up Tennessee highway maps and local brochures for the rest of the weekend.

Mt. Juliet (Old Hickory Lake) · 9264 Saundersville Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122
Spend the afternoon on Old Hickory Lake, the 22,500-acre reservoir along Mt. Juliet's north side. This Corps of Engineers area off Saundersville Road has a swim beach, a playground, picnic space and boat access to open water, plus a lakeside campground with water and electric sites in case one evening by the lake turns into two.
Tip: Pack a cooler and beach chairs, and linger into the evening, when the light turns gold across the water.

Calabria Italian Kitchen
Mt. Juliet · 1209 N. Mt. Juliet Rd., Mt. Juliet, TN 37122
Saturday dinner is brick-oven pizza and fresh pasta at this North Mt. Juliet Road Italian kitchen, which won the Pizza category in the 2026 Main Street Awards. Pies run from simple tomato, mozzarella and basil to bolder combinations with vodka sauce, hot cherry peppers and Calabrese salami, and the pasta list includes wide ribbons of pappardelle under a slow-braised Bolognese.
Tip: Share a pizza for the table, then let everyone pick a pasta of their own.
Cedars of Lebanon State Park
Lebanon · 328 Cedar Forest Rd., Lebanon, TN 37090
On Sunday, head east to this 3,150-acre state park, known for its globally rare cedar glades. About ten miles of trails wind through cedar woods, limestone outcrops and sinkholes. The newest, Cave Creek Trail, is a paved, accessible loop with boardwalks, a steel bridge over the creek and an overlook of Jackson Cave, and the Dixon Merritt Nature Center covers the park's natural and WPA history.
Tip: For a short loop with a big payoff, hike Limestone Sinks, which passes sinkholes, a rock shelter and a centuries-old burled chinkapin oak.
Historic Lebanon Public Square
Lebanon · Public Square, Lebanon, TN 37087
Finish on Lebanon's historic square, the heart of a downtown that Historic Lebanon, the city's Main Street program, keeps polishing; 2025 alone brought 22 building renovations and 11 new downtown businesses. Browse the shops around the square, look for the Capitol Theatre, an event venue for concerts, movies and musicals, and relax in Downtown Square Park, the green space that opened on the square in July 2026.
Tip: Park once and walk all four sides of the square, then regroup on the new lawn before the drive home.

Plan it
Mt. Juliet sits just east of Nashville along I-40, and Lebanon is a short drive farther east on the same interstate, so a car makes this weekend simple. Spring and fall are the sweetest seasons for the lake and the trails; in summer, start outdoors early and save the warmest hours for the beach.
A few stops keep seasonal or limited schedules, including the train museum and the summer splash pads, so check current hours before you go.
