Nine Free Things on Mt. Juliet’s Calendar Between Now and the Tree Lighting
One of the quieter advantages of living in a city the size of Mt. Juliet is that the parks department still programs the year like a neighborhood, not a market. There is no ticketing platform, no dynamic pricing, no service fee stacked onto a $12 admission. Things are announced, and then they happen, and mostly they cost nothing.
Between now and the end of the year, the city's calendar has nine free events on it. Here they are in the order they arrive, so you can put them on the refrigerator in one pass.
August
Annual Greenway Walk — Thursday, August 13, Charlie Daniels Park. The city's yearly organized walk along the greenway. If the weather turns, the rain date is Thursday, August 27. This is the single easiest entry point to the trail system for anyone who has been meaning to use it and never quite has — the whole appeal of a group walk is that somebody else has already decided when you're going.
September
Movie in the Park — Friday, September 11. Bring a blanket. September evenings in Middle Tennessee are the reward for surviving August; the humidity finally lets go around dusk.
Fall Yard Sale — Saturday, September 12. A community-wide sale the morning after the movie, which is either excellent scheduling or a coincidence that works out well for anyone who wants a full weekend.
Mt. Juliet Market Night — Tuesday, September 15, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. The one event on this list with a confirmed window, and a genuinely pleasant use of a Tuesday evening.
Live Like Ambria — Saturday, September 19. A community event on the city's calendar.
October
Movie in the Park — Friday, October 2. The second and, based on the calendar, final outdoor movie of the year. October is arguably the better of the two dates — cooler air, fewer mosquitoes.
Halloween in the Park — Saturday, October 24. The city's organized Halloween event, landing the weekend before Halloween itself, which is the standard arrangement and a merciful one for parents managing two separate costume outings.
November
Home for the Holidays — Saturday, November 14. The unofficial start of the local holiday season.
Christmas Tree Lighting — November 17. The actual start of it. Tree lightings are the most reliably well-attended thing any small city does, and Mt. Juliet's is no exception.
One more, with an asterisk
Pickles for Pups Pickleball Tournament — Saturday, October 3, Charlie Daniels Park. This one is on the calendar but does not list admission, and tournaments typically carry an entry fee for players even when spectating is open. Worth checking before you plan around it.
A note on times
The city lists dates for all of these but publishes start times for only some. Market Night is the exception with its confirmed 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. window. For the rest, times firm up closer to the date on the city's parks and recreation calendar — so if you are building an actual schedule rather than just marking the month, check back a week or two ahead.
Charlie Daniels Park does a lot of the heavy lifting on this list, which will surprise nobody who has spent a Saturday there. It is the closest thing Mt. Juliet has to a town square that happens to have ballfields attached.
